Why should I suggest literature to you?
Oh for any number of reasons, the most logical of them being that I (and all of us Lit ^CV's) cannot be everywhere on the site at any given time. There is literature going gravely unnoticed right now that deserves attention and you may be the only one aware of that writer and their work. You should suggest literature because it helps represent the literature community as a whole. It helps us understand what is impacting writers and what is capturing readers' interest when we receive suggestions-- of similar topics, genres, or forms. It helps keep our view of the community in perspective so we are able to make reasonable decisions regarding DD choices.
That Being Said...
I've been a Literature ^CV for a little while now and I'd like to clear up a few things surrounding lit DD suggestions as well as revisit my guidelines below. Starting January 1st, 2013, any suggestion

CRLiterature: Now Sponsoring ContestsWe recently sponsored two Halloween contests, and we'd now like to give you or your group this opportunity as well.
Nothing is guaranteed. Of course we'll look over each request carefully and let you know as soon as possible, but there are times when our resources may already be stretched thin.
We'd love to promote community-organized contests whenever possible, so don't let this stop you!
There are some expectations: if you've never run a contest before and participation is uncertain, that's probably not going to stand up so well to a group contest that's being going for four years and already has people sending in their entries. If you're not sure, go ahead and fill it out and we'll let you know what we think.

Why should I suggest a DD?
Because people do awesome things and by golly dadgum whillikers, they deserve sitewide appreciation and recognition. Maybe it's because they had the courage to write an intensely personal nonfiction piece, or the nerve to lampoon all the presidents forever, or because they wrote something that made you go 'wow, I wish I could write like that.' Literature Previews, DDs, and YouIntroducing a new policy regarding Literature Gallery DD features.
While not everyone uses preview images and they're not technically part of the work, we're going to require that preview images be properly credited for future features. This does include preview images you've customized that use texture or other such resources.
An important note: Not all images are stock. If an image isn't stock and you want to use it as your preview, please make sure that you've obtained explicit permission from the artist. We will also accept previewed stories that were done for a picture-based prompt if the prompter asked permission to use those images. Of course, you'll need to link to the prompt in your comments.

Whoa. You guys came to play! We got over 200 entries for the DEAR TEEN ME contest, and we are both delighted and shocked and...well, exhausted after reading so many heartfelt entries!

Louder Than a Bomb Poetry Slam
In 2013, #Elocutionists will be hosting its first spoken word competition, dubbed 'Louder Than a Bomb' (named after the Chicago Poetry Slam of the same name). The competition will consist of writers either having their work performed to their specifications by readers or representing themselves in the competition with their own recordings. There may also be the possibility of two categories to enter: a category for individual slam poets and another for groups. If you are not aware of what a poetry slam is, here is a quick definition and rundown of some basic, universal rules:
A poetry slam is a competitive event in which poets perform their work and are judged by members of the audience. Everyone who signs up has the opportunity to read in the first round; the lineup for subsequent rounds is determined by the judges' scores. Though rules vary from slam to slam, the basic rules are

Sure, some of it comes from people whose work truly transcends genres (ever read the Library of Congress classification for Gravity's Rainbow?) and some of it comes from how people choose to interpret certain genres (godsdamnit, 'dark' is not the same as 'horror'! Hey all,

I'm a Literature ^CV now! And that means you can bug me with your DD suggestions! Here are some things to keep in mind when suggesting literature to me.

1 suggestion per note.

A little enthusiasm while suggesting goes a long way.

DD's can only be awarded to members once every 6 month period, not 3 months.

Self-suggestions are welcome, but please consider your work carefully.

Pieces that are for contests that have not yet finalized cannot be DD’d.

Send me

Originality - Whether it be unique thoughts, concepts, imagery, or characters.

Poetry - This is what I prefer, practice, and know best, but I will read everything you send my way!

Quality - Where the writer shows a firm grasp over what they are doing technically and emotionally.

Writing with Merit - A piece of literature can stand on its own with the help of a sound message.

Lastly, every piece of writing should resonate on an emotional level with somebody. Send me something I will want to keep reading!
