Literature News - Dec / Jan 2013Hello all! As you've probably guessed by the title of the journal and the Community Relations journal skin, this is the monthly update from the literature community volunteers.

We (the lit CVs) hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday with family and friends! The holiday season is always bustling fun, and this season was no exception. The literature community was busy with giving, celebrating, and loads of activities. I hope everyone is enjoying the new year because this rush of activity is continuing with a slew of new and renewed projects.

DEAR TEEN ME CONTEST: The Results are IN!
Whoa. You guys came to play! We got over 200 entries for the DEAR TEEN ME contest, and we are both delighted and shocked and...well, exhausted after reading so many heartfelt entries!
First of all, I want to thank everyone who entered. This is a very personal writing endeavor and I know it's hard to put yourselves out there so I hope you all give yourselves a hug for me!

NaNoWriMo Chat ScheduleAre you sick of all the NaNo journals and polls yet? Too bad, because this is another one.

Since I'm super excited about NaNo this year and I absolutely adore being a cheerleader (minus the outfit), I've put together a little schedule of NaNo Chats that will be held in the #CRLiterature chatroom.

What is this business?!
This is a small update on what's going on around the literature community, that's what this business is. The idea is to try and make the community more readily accessible for everyone, whether you're new or have been here for a while.

Literature DD Roundup: October 2012Greetings everyone!
As October has come to an end with spooky delight and tasty treats, it's clear we've had another month of wonderful literature features! Since the team has doubled in size we have consistently brought forth the two literature DD's a day, plus a contribution from staff member $Moonbeam13 made for a special Spirit Day with 3 Lit DD's!
Before I skip to the roundup, I would like to note that the team is very busy at the moment: ^neurotype is in India, ^NicSwaner and `thorns are both sorting out family issues, and ^Beccalicious had her baby! Because of this, our time on deviantART is limited and suggestions for DD's are extremely valued.

Boring question first! How long have you been writing?
I wrote a lot as a teen, but then I had this writing block when I was in school in my late teens and couldn't write a single sentence, whether for essays or for my personal writing. I only started writing again once I mingled in with the Lit people here. (So now you know who's to blame.)
Slightly less boring follow-up! I know you're a doctor, so was there some point where you chose that over writing, or was it the plan from the beginning?

Let's start simple. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your Lit life.
I've been published in about 30 magazines around the world. Most recently, I have poems in [PANK], and Going Down Swinging with pieces forthcoming in COIN OPERA II, Post Road, and FUTUREDAZE. I'm also excited about my first book, DEAR TEEN ME: Authors Write Letters to their Teen Selves, forthcoming from Zest Books in October.
What was your favorite part of the publishing process

Stop Peeing on DDsRude comments on DDs aren't always about the actual feature.
There's no question that the worst thing you can do on a DD is go on and on about how it didn't deserve it, blah blah blah et cetera. The artist had nothing to do with the decision so go to the FAQs and stop being a little bitch. If you can take the time to whine, you can take a little extra to do it properly. :faq873:
I welcome all concerns addressed directly to me. I expect it, rather.
But anyway, this isn't a rant about that. It's a rant about something more insidious: the attitude that DDs are the only thing worth looking at in the whole fucking category.
I'm not directly quoting anyone, but the following is a sample of stuff I've seen. (This is vaguer and a bit nicer than most of it, I'm not that good at being all down with the pointless hating. But the 'I don't read' comments don't give me warm fuzzies either, y'know?)

Hey folks, in January The Event will take place. The Event is all about having fun with literature on deviantART. Leading up to this yet-to-be-named Event will be a series of activities for the lit community to partake in and enjoy themselves with. Stay tuned with #CRLiterature or ^NicSwaner for these Events.

What is a Mad Lib

Mad Libs (from ad lib, a spontaneous improvisation) is a word game where one player prompts another for a list of words to substitute for blanks in a story.

How this works
