Remarkable Reads

These are fine examples of what literature is crafted to be. Take heed and take notice of their nuances and anatomy, for they are thunderbolts among this word-drenched thunderstorm.

Artist's Statement 10/25/2011

Nic Swaner is a studying graphic designer, and a budding young writer whose concepts and syntax require a rush of blood and breath to the lungs. For inspiration he need not look far from the cyclopean sun, feel the displacement before the epilepsy, synthesize some synesthesia, or recall the origami folds his hands have memorized throughout the years.

Nic is almost entirely self-taught in the ways of writing and in doing so has created a style all his own. His medium is mainly through poetry, short stories and articles for websites; he excels in portraying his thoughts and ideas in a world of complex and harmonious verbiage. He is always whittling away at several works of writing that will be submitted to free publishers or magazines. Nic will always be happy to edit and critique your writing, whether it's poetry or prose. Contact him at Packeranatic@gmail.com.

Nic is currently studying graphic design and the fundamentals of art. He has always emphasized the power of concept over complexity, and have maximized color and composition to their utmost potential. He prefers to work with photomanipulations and typography to portray his concepts. He is always open to critique from his peers. Other artistic endeavors from Nic include folding origami, film photography, darkroom artwork such as photograms, and music production.

Trivia

Nic lives in Chicago, Illinois, but his hometown is Robinson, Illinois. He likes Progressive Rock and Underground Rap music. Marcus J. Ranum is his most adored photographer. Samurai Jack is his favorite cartoon character along with Ed, Edd, and Eddy. His favorite ice cream flavor is French Vanilla. He has a mild form of sound to color synesthesia for melodies and believes the song Echoes by Pink Floyd is green.

FotoFriday: 1993

Journal Entry: Fri Jun 14, 2013, 4:23 PM

Welcome to FotoFriday at #CRLiterature #7!

We brought FotoFriday back by popular request a few months ago. Last week, ^neurotype featured this image as a prompt:

Here are the pieces this image inspired:

Bare BonesGarcelle Mackandal regarded the approaching figure with disdainful scrutiny. Her two year old daughter Evelyn did not notice the woman. She leaned forward in her mother’s arms, pudgy hands grasping for the palm fronds that waved over the sparkling ocean.

The woman shuffled closer, moving in a straight line beside the sidewalk, as if focused on following the white stripe painted on the side of the road. She moved with the hunched posture of a person many decades older than her youthful face suggested her to be. Her skin was an unhealthy ashen brown, and her eyes were glassy. A bag of groceries swayed from one clenched hand.

Garcelle ro
Over the bridge Over the bridge, she shuffled. The shimmering veil of black hair she'd been so proud of hung limp and dirty over her face. Her arm was bent at the same odd angle as her neck, and when she finally looked up, everyone who saw her wished she hadn't.

I didn't want to believe in zombies, but there she was.

Please share your thoughts and comments (and even favorite :eyes:). They've posted their work for the world to see, and we thank them for getting involved!

How does FotoFriday Work?

Every other Friday we will post a photograph from a deviant's gallery that we find intriguing and interesting. Using this photograph as a prompt, you are encouraged to write somethinganythingbased on it. It doesn't matter what form of writing, how much you write or even whether you end up with a complete piecethis is all about the prompt and what it inspires!

The photograph is meant as inspiration, not limitation. The exact image doesn't have to appear in the story! (Unless you want it to, of course.)

Are there any rules?

There is only one ruleRESPECT THE PHOTOGRAPHER! At the end of the day, we are using their image and therefore should be offering full credit to them in our artists' comments. We also ask that no one uses the image as a preview image.
Please note: the #CRLiterature team has asked photographers via #CRPhotography if we can use their work in this way. If you are a photographer who is interested in you work possibly being used, please sign up via #CRPhotography!

My Performances

Nic Swaner - Bully [Slam Poetry]

5/22/2013: This was a painful poem to write and revise, but this is my most expressive poem to date, and successively my most personal. I don't think people get told straight up that they are bullying and intimidating those around them and those close to them, but I was fortunate enough to be told this, and in a way that it got through. Upon learning that my family was afraid of me, that my brother was weight training because of this fear, I had to reevaluate myself, who I was, and who I was being to others in mid-2012. I don't know if anything I've learned has stuck, or if every situation will require me to approach it as I have for the past year (almost). It's hard to change with Aspergers, Epilepsy, and a slew of mental disorders that are relatively mild, but I appreciate change for what it can accomplish.</justify>

Wanna know how to code this?

I just want to thank you so much for the DD. I don't think I have words to express my gratitude, but it was a dream come true this morning, and just what I needed to make my day. C:

I don't recognize the website and don't have any login details with it either. I feel safe in saying that that is someone else, but it won't let me view the profile unless I'm logged in. :P

Oh. Okay. Thanks. Because the account name was NicS. He wrote some good poetry. Thought it was you.

P.S., with regards to my note to you. I really hope you could give me a reply. "No" would suffice if you have nothing better to say to me.
